He's an official RAAM finisher!

At 2:45 EST our hero John Spurgeon completed his 3042.8 mile ride to Atlantic City with an official RAAM time of 290 hours and 11 minutes.

Way to go John!

He didn't use gears and he garned huge respect along the way to Atlantic City.
I don't know how to express how happy I am.
What can be next? He's already talked about doing it fixed.

Unbeleavable, but it's possible, doing it on a Single Speed - whow - Congrats from the German Ultracycling Forum, a private forum for a lot of Long Distance Cyclists, Randonneurs etc.

Holy cow, John, you are amazing, inspiring, and just a wee bit terrifying. I must admit that I was most pleased to see that, in the end, food you could chew won out over the nasty liquid stuff. Of course, as someone who still thinks a 300K in 16 hours is a pretty big accomplishment, my opinion of appropriate fuel is suspect . . .

Wonderful John, you are one of my heroes! I was quite nervous the last days if you would make it before the deadline.

Strong Finish! Incredible finishing century + 10 you put in. I didn't see any other rider pack on a speed increase like that. Looking forward to your reflections on the epic achievement.

Congratulations, John! You were awesome out there. Although I have to admit, Friday was a total loss at work ... I was glued to the Web, trading emails with Terry Z and a few other over-involved fans on the ORRando list ... it was very dramatic. We were absolutely in awe as you kicked up the speed. Can't wait to read your ride report.

All the best,

David Rowe
