Two Hundred Eighteen
First, I'd like to recognize some of my newest RAAM sponsors: Hammer Nutrition, Dinotte Lighting, and Terra Cycle!
The Support Crews page has been updated to better reflect the huge group of people who have come together to support me on our RAAM odyssey. Hopefully I didn't forget you. But if I did, please let me know.
Robert Johnson is a huge addition to the crew. He volunteered to be our "PDX Man on the Ground". Robert will be helping me with all sorts of things that need to happen before we leave for Oceanside in June. Already, he's made an impressive splash.
Training is going well. Most importantly, I'm still healthy and injury free. (I did have a little scare on Monday when I endoed on the way to work. I'll tell you about it, but only if you insist.) David and Lara both came down with colds recently. I tried to keep my distance, washed my hands a lot, and avoided the bug.
A couple of weeks ago I circled Hagg Lake seven times with Matthew, et al before riding home. Last Saturday I rode toward Lincoln City, flatted by Spirit Mountain Casino, snapped the valve stem off one of my two spare tubes, and then rode in the rain until a few miles past Tillamook. That's when I met Julia and Denver and hitched a ride home in the van. I called them shortly after changing tubes. I didn't have any spare clothes, and I would have gotten very cold if I flatted again. Not to mention that it was getting dark by the time we met, and Hwy 6 is kind of nasty at night. Alex and I are up to 6x30 push ups, 6x30 sit ups, and 2x10 pull ups about 3 times a week.
I leave for Indiana tomorrow, returning Tuesday. I'll finally get to meet my crew chief, Mike Jacob, as well Andres and Melissa, who've lined up some exercise physiology tests for me on Sunday and Monday.
